Frequently Asked Questions
What is a root canal treatment?
It is an endodontic dental service that removes infected or inflamed pulp from inside the roots. The canals are cleaned, shaped, disinfected, and sealed. A final restoration, often a crown, protects the tooth so you can chew comfortably.
You will be numb during the procedure. Most people report only mild soreness afterward that improves within 24 to 48 hours. Use over-the-counter pain relief as directed unless we advise otherwise.
How long does the appointment take?
Many front teeth and premolars take about 60 to 90 minutes. Molars can take longer because they have more canals. Some cases are completed in one visit, while others may be scheduled over two shorter visits.
Do I always need a crown after a root canal?
Back teeth usually benefit from a crown to prevent cracks and restore full strength. Front teeth may be restored with a strong filling or a crown, depending on how much healthy structure remains.
How long does a root canal last?
This treatment can be an effective long-term solution. Longevity depends on several factors, including tooth location, the age and anatomy of the canals, the severity of infection at the start, the quality of the final seal, whether a crown is placed, and your oral hygiene. With proper care and routine checkups, many treated teeth last for years.
Delaying care can allow infection to spread and may lead to swelling, bone loss, or more complex treatment needs. Early diagnosis is the simplest way to protect your health.
Is extraction and an implant better than a root canal?
When a tooth has a good long-term outlook, saving it is often the simplest and most cost-effective choice. If the prognosis is poor, an implant can be an excellent solution. We will compare both paths, outline timelines and costs, and help you choose the dental treatment that fits your goals.
